The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
It seems like an interactive part of the music and show much like the 'secret language' from the early '90's.
When it's directed by the bands playing, however.
I think it's debatable whether the Woos in Vultures for example, are any good, or appreciated by band because in that instance I think it detracts from the natural spaces originally in the song. (although it obviously can be fun for some and the woos have a certain momentum sometimes)
In the instance of the Nashville Hood or the jam where they directed the woos in Alpharetta (DwD?) they were what the band was aiming for and well placed ( whether you're a wooer or not, at that moment).
