I never understood why TAB or MGB didn't play a set at the Phish Fests

It seems often that there is an indirect idea about the festivals being a celebration of Phish and their fans old and new, both at the festival and otherwise! They seem to want to give people as much time as possible to just be together, including themselves too! And it opens the door wonderfully wide for phans to bring their own music and instruments and have their own performances and improvisations!

This, and explore the numerous art installations, wait in the poster/vinyl line, check out the vendors, play games, enter the Ben & Jerrys raffle, take a yoga class, chill at your camp with friends, cook food, revel in the end-of-tour wealth of music, enjoy the scene, geek out on all things Phish, and get amped for 2-4 sets of phish that night. Also, they spend days setting up the stage structure, sound system, lights, soundchecks etc...not gonna want to break that down or change it for another band, even if its TAB or MGB. Plus, its not the Trey or Mike show over the weekend. Its a celebration of all things Phish. You think Page wants us to suffer thru a TAB daytime set while Ray bangs on his new synths? Doubtful. The band has always been aware of their singular draw since Cliff Ball. They know from that their fans would rather see just them for 3 days than attend some mashup fest.

The Phish-only aspect is what makes these events some of the last must-see high holidays on the Phish calendar. Halloweens arent a constant, neither are fall tours these days. Dicks and NYE are the only remaining annual events, so why sully a now-rare Phish Ball with other bands? Just go to Lockn and see the same old stuff over and over. String Cheese and Whocares, Panic with some washed up classic rock player, Crackhead and Funkadelic, Phil with wannabe Jerry Robinson Motherhood. Nothing innovative there.

So hearing Possum and Ghost for the 1,00000th time is innovative? OK

You think Page has a reason to be jealous of Ray playing with TAB? At this point in his life/career?

Again, I don't see how having a few bands playing would stop anyone from seeing the art installations or waiting for a poster..which is probably the silliest part of your post

To each his own- but dealing with the fan base is a big reason I really only listen to phish online. So entitled and close-minded.

I am sure I will get roasted for this but I don't really care!
