The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
If you decide to go down to Salida, do a stop in Leadville.
Twin Lakes is an amazing little town in our county- my wife grew up there and my in-laws still live in the little village of Twin Lakes proper. HWY 82 goes through Twin Lakes over Independence Pass into Aspen. It is an incredibly beautiful drive. 82 usually opens Memorial Day weekend (closed from around Halloween through Memorial Day due to snow). Lots of dispersed camping around Twin Lakes up by an area called Forebay.
If you ski, the skiing off of Indy Pass is incredible in early June.
I raft guide in Buena Vista during the summers- if you want to raft, there are great sections of the Arkansas River- Numbers if you're feeling a little rowdy, Brown's Canyon for straight beauty and fun- extremely fun in June (one or two class IV's and lots of class III), and more mellow family floats further south towards Salida.
I'll echo what a lot of people already said on here- the San Juan's are f***ing stunning. Ouray, Silverton, Telluride.
edit- the fishing on the Arkansas is great. I don't really fish, but my friend runs guided fishing trips out of his little shop in Leadville. The dude is a fantastic guy. Alpine Ski and Sport- right on Harrison Ave (the main street) https://www.alpineskiandsport.com/
another edit- if you wind up at the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs check out the springs in the creek (although in June the water can be too high) and check out the upper pools- killer views up at the upper pools.
