The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
In fairness to Phish, most of FL does suck. Jacksonville, pan handle, Miami, north Fl/south GA, even Orlando.
That being said Gulf Coast from Tampa down to Naples is a beautiful part of the county, and the city of Tampa in particular is a fantastic place to live and work.
But one of the issues I would say would be venues of the appropriate size. They clearly don’t draw great in FL, the NHL/NBA arenas are too big (Amalie, FLA Live and Amway Center), and admittedly the outdoor sheds don’t work well in the summer as it’s insufferably hot here during traditional summer tour time.
I’m actually not even really bothered by them not coming to FL. I enjoy going to new and different places for shows. It’s an excuse to travel.
