The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
Doubt this is much help, not sure what you could target surf fishing? Sharks maybe? That would be pretty cool to catch like a 5 foot bull shark in the surf.
My recommendation is bring some of your freshwater gear. A medium action spinning rod with 20-30lb braid, short little flourocarbon leader and some bass baits.
It’s been many years, but I would catch all kinds of stuff in the back bays and inlets on my bass gear when I’d visit during the holidays. Redfish, snook, trout, Jack’s, and even some stuff I couldn’t identify.
Chatterbaits without the skirt and 1/4 or 3/8oz jig heads with 3-4” swimbaits behind em. Just kind of steadily pop it up and down off the bottom. Those were always the best bets. I did catch a big snook on a Zara spook one time too. That was awesome!
Maybe try catching a jack on spinning gear and use it for bait surf fishing. One thing I’ve always noticed on the beaches down there is folks always swim or paddle their baits WAY out there. I guess most beaches have a pretty gradual contour slope?!
Hope this helps even just a little. Good luck, man!
