The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
I was shocked to see him get the chance to play there. Looking at the other sizes of venues he's played, he's not as far off as I'd expect.
What's weird is that his New York area show for this summer at the Hartford Healthcare Amp in Bridgeport isn't sold out. That's a 5700 capacity venue that's accessible by commuter rail from New York. It might be a slightly further drive from Jersey, but to be filling out a 15k venue and then unable to fill 6k in the same region six months later is a little weird to me.
Admittedly that venue sucks, but I figure it'd be almost impossible to get tickets given the demand for BFMS right now, but it's surprising.
l think it's fair to rope in Goose comparisons here, and I think Goose are more likely than Billy. Their crossover appeal is a lot higher, especially given the indie rock focus they've put in some of their newer music. Talking to people my age (mid-twenties) with zero interest in jam bands who don't know a lick about Phish have been talking up Goose to me.
Plus, MSG is firmly in Goose's market. I'm from the same town as the guys in Goose, and the last time I saw Peter was on an MNRR train back from MSG after a Baker's Dozen show. They're playing SPAC this summer. I feel like that's a trial run. EDIT: And the pav is completely sold out, with a ton of tickets up for big re-sale values. If lawn tickets to that show sell out by summer time, that might be a pretty good indicator we haven't hit peak Goose yet.
