The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
I remember thinking that the person running Phish_FTR was asleep at the wheel or I had no service because I hadn't gotten an update in 35 minutes. How lucky was I to be wrong.
I think, post Shoreline Soul Planet, and the BD, it was easy to forget that even 20 minute jams were a real rarity in 3.0 prior to the Tahoe Tweezer. Referencing another thread on here I just found, there were only 7 22+ minute jams between the reunion and 2012. 7.
Phish simply did not jam the way they do now. It's almost expected we'll see something crack 20 minutes every night, 25 minutes or so once or twice a run, 30 minutes a few times a tour, and maybe an enormous 35+ minute monster once a year.
Not that the time is always the most important factor, but it shows that the risk taking as the band settled into 3.0 was getting more and more adventurous as time went on, not less and less. And I think that's pretty neat.
