The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
That said, it's virtually impossible not to let the visuals distract you from the music. There were multiple times where I had to remind myself to just listen to how well they were jamming. Different with CK5 lights, as they are one with the music as opposed to something that has to be seen on its own, separate from the music.
So to keep this a once/year thing and let the music do the talking the rest of the year is just fine with me. Kind of like if they tried to do a NYE gag or Halloween production multiple times/year - would be too much. My hope is that this becomes like those two traditions and that they keep jamming out with Kuroda, open sheds and shitty arenas the rest of the year.
