And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
I am a Strat obsessive and now primarily play a 2019 natural finish Ash Limited Edition that I swapped the pickups out of. I was trying to mimic what Fender put in their Gilmour Strats. Off the top of my head, I believe there's a SD SSL-5 in the neck, a Custom Shop '69 in the middle, and Fat 50s in the neck.
This plugs into the talkbox our drummer got me when he wanted us to play Pigs by Pink Floyd. From there it goes into the fuzz face, the Crybaby (modified) , the TS9, JHS Notaklon, Wampler compressor, Uni-Vibe, Phaser and then the H9.
The Notaklon is the latest addition And I've been very happy with it. It fills in for the role previously occupied by my TS9, which I was never quite satisfied with when I needed more dirt. The ts9 now fills the role of my previous Fender boost pedal. So I have the drive up just a little bit for some nice warmth and can also kick it on with the Notaklon or fuzz for some extra oomph.
This all goes to my Fender 68 DRRI which has a Tone King Iron Man 2 attenuator on it. The Iron Man has really been a game changer for letting me use the amp in the small bar we usually play at. I set the amp at about 3 and 1/2 or 4 and dial the attenuator to the appropriate volume. So I'm able to get a nice full tone on the edge of breakup but at a decent volume. Obviously it's also helpful at band practice.
I tried messing around with a fender mustang GTX100 amp for gigs just for the fact that it's so much lighter, but I quickly determined that modeling amps are not for me. The other guitar player in our band uses a Boss Katana 2 and is happy with it.
I'm in a dad band with a bunch of other 50 somethings and we play a range of covers. We all have different music tastes, so we tend to play an oddball mix of things. Our bass player is a straight up metal guy and we'll be debuting NIB by Sabbath this weekend. I was able to fit in Blaze On and Funky Bitch.
Overall I'm really happy with the range of sounds I have available. I tend to record our practices and gigs and mix them in Logic Pro. So naturally I'm building up my stock of microphones too 🤣
