The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.

Even the guys in phish probably have some terrible stories about them, and they seem like generally good guys. I remember hearing an interview with Ben Harper and thinking “well now I think that guy sucks. Why did I listen to that?”
Billy definitely seems like an extreme case, but my impression from watching his interviews is sort of a heavy combination of “my childhood was seriously off kilter and I didn’t learn very good social skills” mixed with “I have a vision for this and it’ll be great if everyone does exactly what I say”

I found that to be sort of…I don’t know the word. He was one of the very biggest rock stars for a period of time and there he was, afraid of being made fun of. Everyone has something.
Also, as a guy who was a huge fan in the 90s and had just eaten a bunch of mushrooms, the Rhinoceros opener on 8/3/98 was absolutely slack-jawing.
And amongst the entire summer of covers, there are few that had SUCH a killer guitar part.
